About Us
Welcome to Apple Manor
This beautiful home, situated on a working apple farm, is the perfect escape into country life.
Situated on the foothills of the Western escarpment of the Drakensburg, the farm lies just 2.5km outside of the little village of Wakkerstroom and is an idyllic retreat to awaken the soul and senses and soothe the mind and body from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. World-renowned for its birding, the scenery, tranquillity and small-town charm makes this escape an experience of travelling back in time to a different era, where neighbours drop off care baskets and know each other by name.
The Apple Manor itself is a spacious four-bedroom home with a magnificent dining & lounge area that sleeps eight, while four cottages on the property easily accommodate an additional 14 people, making this the perfect accommodation for families and groups. All accommodation is fully self-catering and catering (delicious meals from our very own Wakkerstroom Hotel’s chef and manager, Nkosi Moyo) can be easily arranged. A bed and breakfast arrangement may also be made.
One can hike or bring your own bikes and cycle, as well as spend time at the dam to enjoy everything the farm has to offer.

Outdoor & Adventure
Wakkerstroom is world-renowned for its birding. Take a trip to the vlei that provides an opportunity for short, tranquil walks and two well-situated bird hides. Consider taking a picnic basket as there are some wonderful spots ideal for a picnic too.
The Damascus Waterfall (BY BOOKING ONLY). A short twenty minute drive, accessible primarily by 4×4, this waterfall can be visited by appointment. The farm owner Oom Bertus allows you access with a guide (please speak to the Manor staff regarding this) and a large portion of the monies made are donated to the Wakkerstroom Tourist Association to support and upkeep the town. A picnic basket can be provided and when it’s not too cold, the brave can sit under the waterfall too. Please note that absolute NO FIRES are allowed as this is on a working farm.
Hiking, biking and picnicking can be enjoyed and in harvest months farm activities such as picking apples or your own cabbage, dipping the cattle and other farming tasks can be arranged. Tractor rides can also be arranged in advance for children.
Fishing is possible at Martin’s Dam or the massive Zaaihoek dam. Please note both these dams are open to the public, with Zaaihoek being quieter and more isolated, while Martin’s dam is more accessible to the local public.
Entertainment
Wakkerstroom draws people from all around to their regular events, organised by the local businesses and the Tourist Association. You can enjoy anything from 4×4 trails to late night street bonfire parties and sokkie’ing in the street until 2am.
